I have the distinct feeling that we're all talking about somewhat 
different things, which is probably why we're having trouble understanding 
each other.

Essentially, I was distinguishing between grammar and syntax.  It's really 
not all that burning an issue, though.  I think I'd rather go learn about 
how Lojban describes proportions and quantities, and come back to this 
some other time.
