Hello, all,
first of all, let me introduce myself: I'm Sabrina, Brazilian woman which is actually living in the heart of the green heart of Austria: the tiny and beautiful city of Graz. Pleasure to meet you! =)

Actually I'm learning Lojban via Lojban for Beginners, and I (already) have a doubt, about lojbanising words:

Athens - Athina, for instance, becomes .atinas. In Portuguese we use to say A-TEH-nas, and in Italian, A-TEH-ne. So how should I lojbanise these words? Does it exist a sort of common rule?

Thank you, guys.

Ciao,
Sabrina.

Eclipse Phase Quick-Start Rules in Lojban?

(I originally sent a version of this message to Robin Lee Powell;
I'm sending it here at his suggestion, as it might be something
that interests the community at large.)

Eclipse Phase is a pretty groovy transhuman horror tabletop RPG,
released under a Creative Commons license (BY-NC-SA, for those
who are curious). I'm a fan, and have done some copyediting work
on some of their releases. Today, one of the creators posted
regarding a Portugese translation of the quick-start rules:

 http://www.eclipsephase.com/blog

It struck me that Lojban doesn't have (as far as I know) any works
of this nature, rules for playing a game (or a tabletop RPG). I
think it would be pretty cool to have such a thing. Another feather
in the breadth of the utility of the language. (Plus, it's CC-licensed,
so there's no worries about hosting it on the official Lojban website,
angering the developers, and so on.)

I pinged Robin on this, because he's on the mailing list for a game
I work on (Endgame: Singularity), and I feel that the two have some
similarities. I suspect many Lojban enthusiasts are into this sort
of thing in an over-broad, general sense, if only going from my own
tastes. :)

Unfortunately, I happen to be nothing but the most rank novice with
Lojban itself.

Anyway, if there /is/ interest in doing a translation of the
quick-start rules, it's entirely possible that I can convince one
of the EP devs to provide the design files used so, in the end, there
could be a professional-looking Lojban translation of the
quick-start rules.

And if there isn't interest, well, what the heck. It was worth a
shot. ;)

I've taken on the task of ensuring that the Home Page
of the lojban website stays fresh and up-to-date.
There's nothing worse for someone who has just got
interested in lojban to encounter a home page that
looks abandoned.

In particular, for the website to look fresh, news clips
need to be placed there no less than approx once a
month (my judgement, based on some years of working
on commercial websites).

So I would like to encourage you to place newsworthy items
there. Example: completed significant translations,
people stories, reviews of lojban by third parties etc.

So, if you do finish a translation, or have recently finished one,
or anything leasi you deem newsworthy,
please put news of it there - or let me know so I can do it.

smart.fm

I have come to the conclusion that it would be beneficial to this project if
there was some sort of central online repository for the lojban audio re:
the Smart.fm lessons, the reason being that it would be a simple matter for
those of us who are putting the entries in the lessons would be able to
download the audio for the entry from said repository.

Obviously this means that the audio must be *done* first, and so far the
only audio I am aware of is that which I have recorded myself, with one
exception, which unfortunately was not used for reasons that do not need to
be mentioned.

Speaking of which, I know that at least 3 people offered to record audio,
what is the status of their recordings?

In any case, I am wondering if anyone has a suggestion for such a
repository. Something free and easily accessible would be best. I know there
is a site which is used for spoken audio, the name of which currently
escapes me, but I am discouraged from using it as the site's purpose, IIRC,
is for conversational spoken Lojban, and the audio for the Smart.fm lessons
is merely gismu and the occasional {lo}, {se}, {te}, {ve}, and {xe}.
