A reference r is +specific if in order to determine its referent R we must
appeal to the speaker's intention to refer to R.

A reference r is +definite if the speaker intends the listener to be able
to determine R.

"The man" and "George" are +specific +definite.

"A certain man" is +specific -definite.

"A man" and "Some men" are -specific -definite.
