But it does:

LAU takes a lerfu word. A lerfu word can be a BY (which includes
word-bu) but it can also be a tei-foi string. It could also be another
lau-modified lerfu word, so we could have {lau lau by}, whatever it may
mean.

It's not a change in the grammar.
